The prototype idealisation process consisted of tackling problems in our scenario that have been made apparent in the task 2 presentation of our Hong Kong scenario. Thorough analysis of our feedback helped assist in fleshing out issues of our scenario that needed fixes which we considered the prototypes as. At first I came up with a jacket that protected the user from the climates of Hong Kong but after discussion with the tutor it posed a lot of unnecessary features that did not aid the issues of Hong Kong’s overpopulation in 2050. Within the text ‘Pharmco – pornographic politic: towards a new gender ecology’ it discusses “body technologies”, that produce sex and sexuality to be the business of the millennium. Which lead to another device in our scenario that I was interested in was the annex birth control patch. This patch would be regulated by the HK government to control birth rates as well as the child application form. The difference from this contraceptive patch and the existing one was that the annex had a wireless chip that connects to the user’s device and relay real time data that would let the user know how much hormones in is their system and their ovulation window if they were planning to have a child with 99.9% accuracy.
The patch would be worn on the skin like an adhesive patch on the upper arm, upper back or lower abdomen areas. The patch will transfer the needed percentage of hormones through the skin in the form of a gel. This method is non-invasive and is activated by body heat. The product is sent via the government every 4 months. The product has been designed to hold a potent amount of hormones in a small package. This will ensure the lightweight, waterproof durable feel and allows to detect the right amounts of hormones needed in the individuals system. The top of the product is made of microfiber wires woven into a fabric that can be programmed to the individuals skin colour and seem invisible. The fabric is also breathable and lets the skin move and breathe by contracting and expanding with the user’s movement.
Socially, annex is accepted and used by most women as they are more work focused and aware of the consequences of owning a child. Child protection is increased with child applications, only those fit to be parents or a parent will be approved through a number of assessments. With any society there is going to be misuse of the product and resistance so with any tampering of the product or resistance without any proper authorisation will result in fines or legal prosecution.
With more tech investors and inventors moving to Hong Kong the market has been competitive than ever. Politically it triggers questions of human rights and ethical correctness amongst society but also raises benefits to working females gaining access to free birth control as well as decrease teen pregnancies rates and more freedom without the limits of the body regarding childbirth. This also ensures that less children are born into unfit homes and less orphanages or foster cares are needed.
